August 19 – 22, 2020
This is my first art festival!
I’m looking forward to painting in the Blue Ridge Mountains next week. If you’re in the area, please stop by to watch me, along with other painters from around the world, as we paint outside in the fresh air (which is what plein air means).
During the four-day event, I’ll meet up with several plein air painters from around the Lake Norman area, who I’ve gotten to know since we bought a lake house in North Carolina a couple years ago. Their work is remarkable; so be sure to check it out
After four days of painting, we’ll exhibit our completed work at a “Wet Paint” Art Show & Sale on Saturday afternoon.
Cuba Trip Opens Artistic Borders
In January of 2018, eight Chicago-area artists, including Anne Gallagher, traveled to Cuba. There the group spent a week touring art studios, schools and museums, while taking plenty of time to paint the city of Havana and surrounding countryside. Although the trip itself was fantastic, Anne was most excited to be in the company of amazing artists, including Christina Body, Kraig Hogan, Errol Jacobsen (who organized the trip), Laurie Kennard, Mary Longe, Jenn Stanley and Stephanie Weidner.
Anne Meets the Zhou Brothers
Look who artist Anne Gallagher ran into at Chicago’s Midway Airport in December 2018. They are the famous Zhou Brothers. Viewed as superheroes in China, ShanZuo and DaHuang Zhou rank among the most important and accomplished contemporary artists in the world today. When Anne met up with them, they were on their way to Kansas City to create a new art center. Besides being impressed by their artwork, Anne was moved by the way in which the Zhou brothers (along with their nephew and business manager, Michael Zhou) exude kindness and a sense of serenity.
